History
John Fagan (1820-1860) served as a soldier in the Texas War for Independence at Goliad in 1835-1836. His family was among the Irish colonists of the Power and Hewetson (Refugio) empresario grant that opened the region to settlement. Fagan is the earliest known burial in Old Lamar Cemetery north of Rockport, where a state marker placed in 1962 honors him.
