History
Claude Monroe Ayers (1854-1915) was a locomotive engineer who piloted the first Fort Worth & Denver City passenger train to reach the town in 1887. The community, first called Armstrong City, was renamed Claude in his honor. His grave marker in Claude Cemetery was erected by the state in 1971.
