History
The present Austin County Courthouse in Bellville was built in 1960 after fire destroyed the county's beloved 1888 courthouse, a design by noted Houston architect Eugene T. Heiner, on April 5 of that year. Rather than rebuild the old structure, the county commissioned Fort Worth architect Wyatt C. Hedrick to design a starkly modern replacement of granite, concrete and glass. The building stands in the center of a traffic circle in historic downtown Bellville.
