History

The Luetge Cemetery lies near Schoenau, a German farming community founded in the 1880s on the west bank of West Mill Creek about three miles northwest of Industry in northwestern Austin County. Its settlers came largely from the north-German provinces of Holstein, Oldenburg, and Westphalia; the Luetge family was among the community's long-established households, and Schoenau native Geraldine Luetge later wrote a published history of the settlement.
