The Frontier Times Museum in Bandera was built in 1933 to house the Western collection of J. Marvin Hunter Sr., a historian, journalist, and editor who founded the magazine 'Frontier Times' in 1923 to record 'True Stories of the Old West.' Readers sent Hunter so many pioneer-era relics that he opened the museum to display them, and the collection has since grown to more than 30,000 items. Among its curiosities are a trunk owned by female gambler Lottie Deno, Edison phonographs, and a collection of some 400 rare bells.
