History
The Bastrop County Courthouse was built in 1883 in the Renaissance Revival style to a design by J. N. Preston & Son, replacing an 1851 courthouse that had burned. The adjacent three-story brick jail, opened in 1892, was designed by prominent Houston architect Eugene T. Heiner. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1975.
