History

The Brooks-Wilbarger House at 1403 Main Street in Bastrop is a Greek Revival home built in 1851 by Major A. M. Brooks and his wife Althea. In 1865 it was acquired by James Harvey Wilbarger, son of the famous scalping survivor Josiah Wilbarger, and his wife Dorothy. One of the few surviving Greek Revival houses in the area, it is dominated by a two-story portico over a central-hall plan and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
