History
The Murray Burleson Home is a two-and-a-half-story Queen Anne mansion built between 1899 and 1903 on riverfront land in Smithville. Burleson, born in Bastrop County in 1849, rose from ranch hand and cattle driver to merchant and land dealer, and he helped bring the Taylor, Bastrop & Houston Railroad through the new town in 1887. His riverside Victorian home is considered one of the finest historic residences on the lower Colorado River.
