History

Hills Prairie Cemetery is a small, now-disused African American burial ground on Hills Prairie Road in Bastrop County, wedged between the road and a draw leading into Cedar Creek. It fell out of use around 1920 when the larger Clearview Cemetery opened about a mile to the west and took over burials for the same community. No engraved stones survive, only the rusted remains of temporary markers, and the site carries a Historic Texas Cemetery designation.
