History
Killeen's city cemetery began in 1856 as a family plot on the Fleming farm, where J. W. Fleming received the first burial that May; from 1867 the Flemings opened the ground to neighboring settlers and a community cemetery grew. In June 1942, when Camp Hood was built, 768 bodies from fifteen rural cemeteries inside the new post were reinterred here in one of the largest cemetery relocations in Texas history. The City of Killeen has operated the grounds since 1950.
