History

The Selma Stagecoach Stop originated as the Harrison and Brown stage stop built in 1849 to handle passengers and freight on the San Antonio-to-Austin line. John Harrison, who settled in Selma in 1852, became the town's first postmaster when its post office opened in 1856 and co-owned the Harrison and McCulloch stage line. Declared a State Archeological Landmark in 2000, the building underwent an extensive reconstruction from 2004 to 2008 using period limecrete and now anchors a visitor center and park. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
