History
Villa Finale is an 1876 Italianate mansion in San Antonio's King William Historic District that was restored beginning in 1967 by preservationist Walter Mathis, who helped revive the neighborhood by rehabilitating more than a dozen surrounding homes. Mathis filled the house with some 12,500 decorative-art objects, including a notable collection of Napoleon Bonaparte memorabilia, and bequeathed the property to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It opened to the public as Villa Finale: Museum & Gardens in 2010 and is the Trust's only site in Texas.
