History

This San Antonio marker honors Col. George Wythe Baylor (1832-1916), a Confederate officer who served as senior aide-de-camp to Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston. After the Civil War he led Texas Rangers against Apache raiders along the Rio Grande frontier, pursuing the chief Victorio, and he later represented El Paso in the Texas Legislature. Baylor died in San Antonio in 1916 and was buried in the city's Confederate Cemetery.
