History
The Bosque Museum in Clifton grew out of a collection of pioneer artifacts bequeathed in 1924 by Norwegian immigrant Jacob Olson, which became the foundation of today's museum when Clifton Lutheran College closed in 1954. Reflecting Clifton's identity as the 'Norwegian Capital of Texas,' the museum holds one of the largest collections of Norwegian artifacts in the region and a reconstructed 1866 Olson log cabin. Its centerpiece is the Horn Shelter exhibit, documenting a deeply stratified Bosque County rock shelter, one of only about fifteen known Paleoamerican shelters in North America, where two skeletons dating back some 11,000 years were found.
