History

The 12,000-square-foot Lake Jackson Historical Museum chronicles the area from the indigenous Karankawa people through the antebellum plantation era to the city's 1940s founding as a company town for the Dow Chemical Company during World War II. Operated by the Lake Jackson Historical Association, its exhibits include the Windecker Eagle (the first all-composite aircraft) and displays on Tejano singer Selena's early years. The association also runs the restored 1943 office where architect Alden B. Dow designed the city's winding streets.
