History

Edmund Calloway Darst was a son of Abraham Darst, a Missouri native who came to Texas in 1827 as one of Stephen F. Austin's colonists and fought in the 1832 Battle of Velasco and at San Jacinto. Edmund died young in 1838, only two years after Texas independence. His memorial stands near the center of Damon Cemetery beside the Samuel Damon marker.
