History

St. John's Episcopal Church at 700 Main Avenue in Brownwood is a Gothic Revival church of rock-faced limestone begun in 1892 and finished gradually as the congregation's finances allowed. Its stained-glass windows were made in Belgium, and a shipping mix-up left the church with a "Tokyo" window originally intended for a St. Peter's Church in Japan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
