History

Mud Creek Cemetery in Brown County holds graves dating to the earliest Anglo settlement of the area: the first known burial was infant Martha Blackwell in 1864, though an illegible rock slab suggests use as early as 1862. Interments include pioneer Charles Mullins (1790–1880), who brought his family to the area in 1858, victims of Indian raids, and people connected to the 1926–27 oil boom. A Texas historical marker was erected in 1983.
