History

The Dabney Hill Cemetery lies at the heart of Dabney Hill, a Texas 'freedom colony' near Snook in Burleson County. The community was founded in 1887 by Daniel Dabney, a formerly enslaved man born in Virginia who acquired land on a hill east of present-day Snook and helped establish the Dabney Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The church and its cemetery remain the anchor of one of the county's historic African American settlements.
