History

Fairland Cemetery serves the community of Fairland, on FM 1855 north of Marble Falls in Burnet County, which was settled in the early 1850s by families who named the level tract of land 'fair land.' The cemetery adjoins Crownover Chapel—the Backbone Valley's first public building, begun in 1859 on a seven-acre tract donated by heirs of settler Jefferson Barton—and its earliest recorded grave dates to 1857.
