History
Old Town Cemetery sits on an elevated ridge at Indianola Beach and is one of three cemeteries that served the vanished port of Indianola. Its oldest surviving marker, that of James Chilton Allan, is dated 1851, and among those buried here are some of Calhoun County's earliest German settlers of the 1840s. Many original tombstones—including that of Angelina Eberly, heroine of the Texas Archives War—have been lost to storms and vandalism; a Sesquicentennial marker was placed in 1986.
