The base features brickwork banding and entry bays topped by shallow, two story porticos and engaged columns crowned by Corinthian capitals. Inside is an oustanding stained glass rotunda.

The 1912 Cameron County Courthouse in Brownsville—often called the Dancy Building after County Judge Oscar C. Dancy, who championed its construction—was designed by architect Atlee B. Ayres in the Classical Revival style and built between 1912 and 1914 by the Gross Construction Company. Its relatively plain exterior conceals an art-glass dome above the central rotunda. It served as the county courthouse until 1979, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and was fully renovated between 1994 and 2006.
