Caddo Mounds State Historic Site near Alto preserves the George C. Davis site, the southwesternmost ceremonial center of the Caddo people, built beginning around 800 CE by a Hasinai Caddo group. It comprises three earthen mounds used for temples, ceremonies, and burials, along with the remains of a village. Texas Parks and Wildlife acquired the land and established a park in 1974, and the Texas Historical Commission has operated the site since 2008.
