History

The Vanishing Texana Museum in Jacksonville was founded in 1976 and displays antiquities, ephemera, and regional artifacts, most dating from 1830 to 1950. The collection traces its origins to a mastodon tooth donated in 1956, and the city appointed a board that incorporated the museum in 1975. It occupies the former city library, a building erected by the WPA in 1940, and opened in its current form to the public around 2012.
