History

Hogg Cemetery lies on the eastern side of Rusk, south of Highway 84, and is the burial ground of the family of Texas Governor James Stephen Hogg. Hogg's parents, Joseph L. and Lucanda (McMath) Hogg, settled at the nearby Mountain Home plantation in 1839, and family members, including the governor's mother, are buried here, though Governor Hogg himself is interred in Austin. The site adjoins land now part of Jim Hogg City Park.
