History

Plainview Cemetery is an African American cemetery near the Ponta community, close to the intersection of Highways 110 and 204 in eastern Cherokee County. Its burials date to the 1800s; according to a longtime caretaker only one family buried there was white. Parts of the older west section are overgrown with many unmarked and broken stones, and the cemetery was surveyed in 2001.
