History

The current Coke County Courthouse in Robert Lee is the county's third, built in 1955-1956 in a Modern style to a design by Fort Worth architect Wyatt C. Hedrick with Harry Weaver, at a cost of about $300,000. It replaced the county's first courthouse, an 1891 stone building fashioned from rock quarried on the Kirkland Ranch that had served for roughly 65 years before its demolition in 1955. Coke County was organized in 1889, and the seat moved to Robert Lee in 1891.
