History

The historic Collin County Courthouse on the McKinney square began as a French Second Empire building completed in 1875 that was reputedly the tallest structure in Texas north of San Antonio. A major 1927 remodeling by architect W. A. Peters of the Paris firm Sparger & Peters recast it as a Classical Revival edifice. The county government vacated the building in 1979 for a new courthouse, and the old landmark was restored and reopened in 2006 as the McKinney Performing Arts Center.
