History

St. Peter's Episcopal Church was organized in McKinney in 1876 as a mission of Bishop Alexander Garrett, beginning with five families who worshiped in homes and offices for its first seventeen years. Elevated to a parish in 1890, it built a cross-shaped frame church for $1,350 in 1893, replaced by a new building in 1926. After fires in 1959 and 1960 destroyed the sanctuary, a modern church was completed in 1961.
