Frijole Ranch Cultural Museum

The Frijole Ranch Cultural Museum in Guadalupe Mountains National Park occupies the old ranch headquarters and traces the human history of the Guadalupes from Native Americans through pioneer ranching to the creation of the park. The ranch was built about 1876 by the Rader brothers next to Frijole Spring and grew to comprise seven buildings; John Thomas and Nella May Smith moved there in 1906 and raised ten children over 36 years. J. C. Hunter's son eventually expanded the operation to more than 67,000 acres before selling to the National Park Service in 1966, and the restored 1992 ranch house—listed on the National Register in 1978—now serves as a seasonal interpretive museum.
