History

Dallas Fire Station No. 16 at 5501 Columbia Avenue was built around 1917-1918 as a two-story red brick station designed by architect H.A. Overbeck. It combines Prairie School and Mission Revival elements, with a curvilinear Mission-style parapet and red clay tile roof intended to blend the firehouse into its residential neighborhood. Serving until shortly after World War II, it was listed on the National Register in 1997 and now houses the Decorative Arts community arts center.
