History

Farmers Branch Historical Park is a 27-acre open-air museum interpreting the 1840s to 1950s in what was Dallas County's first settlement, established in 1842 and later named for its rich farming soil as headquarters of the Peters Colony. The City established the park in 1981 and opened it five years later. Its cornerstone structures include the 1856 Gilbert House-the oldest stone home in Dallas County still on its original foundation-the 1937 Dodson House, an 1877 depot, and a 1900 schoolhouse.
