History
La Reunion was a utopian socialist colony founded in 1855 on the south bank of the Trinity River in Dallas County by French, Belgian, and Swiss followers of the philosopher Charles Fourier, led by Victor Prosper Considerant. About 200 colonists settled the site, which peaked near 350 residents before financial insolvency ended the experiment after roughly eighteen months. Many former colonists remained and helped shape early Dallas; a commemorative marker stands in Reverchon Park.
