History
The Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas in Denton began in 1938 as a collection of designer garments assembled by Stanley and Edward Marcus of the Dallas department store Neiman Marcus. UNT became custodian of a few thousand pieces through a 1972 donation to support its fashion design program and renamed it the Texas Fashion Collection in 1989. Now one of the most significant fashion archives in the U.S., it holds close to 20,000 garments and accessories spanning 250 years, including hundreds of works by Balenciaga, Givenchy, Dior, and Oscar de la Renta.
