History
Denton's three-story red-brick senior high school was built in 1924 at the north end of the college campus and opened that fall to 478 students. Designed in Classical Revival style by Fort Worth architect Wiley G. Clarkson, it featured 24 classrooms, laboratories, an auditorium, gymnasium, and library trimmed in Lueders limestone. After a new high school opened in 1957 it became a junior high, later renamed Calhoun for its longtime principal, and it was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 2009.
