History
Swedish stonemason Lawrence Olson built this two-story cut-sandstone building in Roanoke in 1886 for brothers R.M. and B.S. Snead to house the Silver Spur Saloon. The oldest surviving commercial building in Roanoke, its ground floor operated as a saloon while the upstairs reportedly served as a brothel, and over the decades it also housed a bank, grocery, cafe, garage, and the town telephone switchboard. The Texas Historical Commission marked it in 2009, and it now holds the Roanoke Visitor Center and Museum.
