History

Old Alton Bridge, Denton County's oldest surviving Pratt-truss iron bridge, was built in 1884 across Hickory Creek by the King Iron Bridge Manufacturing Company of Ohio. Roughly 145 feet long, it once carried the main road from Denton to Dallas and takes its name from Alton, the county seat from 1850 to 1856. It joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and now serves hikers and equestrians; local ghostlore also knows it as Goatman's Bridge.
