History

Ennis was established in 1872 and named for Cornelius Ennis, a director of the Houston & Texas Central Railway, which made the town a division point on its line between Corsicana and Dallas. The Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum opened on April 10, 1993 in a restored century-old depot that the city acquired from Southern Pacific. Its exhibits cover railroad history along with the community's cultural heritage, including its notable Czech roots.
