History
Dr. William P. Smith was an early Fayetteville-area settler remembered as a surgeon, military leader, and public servant. A veteran of the War of 1812, he took part in the San Jacinto campaign during the Texas Revolution and later became a Methodist minister who taught at the Fayetteville Academy. He is buried in the Fayetteville City Cemetery.
