History

The Fort Bend Museum opened in 1972 in historic Richmond and is operated by the Fort Bend History Association, portraying county history from Austin's Colony in 1822 to 1945. Its complex includes the Long-Smith Cottage, built about 1838-1840 on property owned by Jane Long, the 'Mother of Texas,' and later owned by Goliad survivor Thomas Jefferson Smith. The complex also encompasses the 1883 John M. Moore Home and the McFarlane House.
