History
Andrew Jackson Beard (1814-1866), a native of Arkansas, was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto. In the fall of 1835 he served several months in the Texas army before an honorable discharge, then joined Captain William H. Patton's Columbia Company and fought as a private at San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. He later settled in Fort Bend County, where he is buried with his wife Sallie in the Brown-Beard Cemetery near Needville; the state placed his marker in 1936.
