History
This marker notes the site of the Richmond home of Mirabeau B. Lamar, second president of the Republic of Texas (1838-1841) and often called the father of Texas education. Lamar lived here from 1851 until 1859. The State of Texas placed the marker in 1936, and the site is now preserved as part of Lamar Homestead Park near the Brazos River.
