History

Union Cemetery began in 1860 when Jacob W. Tacker donated two acres for a school and burial ground, and the surrounding settlement was first known as the Tacker community. After a second church, the Union Church, was built on the property in 1891, both the community and the cemetery took the name Union, and a Union Cemetery Association was organized in 1900 to maintain the grounds. The cemetery lies about seven miles southwest of Teague in southwestern Freestone County and received a Texas historical marker in 1968.
