History
Frio Town, laid out by A. L. Oden in 1871 as Frio City, was the first county seat of Frio County. Its first cypress-shingled courthouse burned in 1877 and was replaced by a two-story native-stone building. When the railroad favored Pearsall in 1883 the county seat moved there, and the town, renamed Frio Town in 1886, dwindled to a ghost town; the old rock courthouse and jail ruins still stand on a private ranch.
