History

The Old Kemah School Museum preserves a two-room schoolhouse that taught first through sixth grades from 1912 to 1949. After several later uses, including a stint as a boat-shoe store, the building was acquired by the City of Kemah in 2006 and relocated to serve as the Kemah Historical Society's museum and visitor center. It displays photographs of the town's founders and longtime residents in a community that began as a 177-acre Mexican land grant and was first established as Evergreen in 1898.
