History

The current Galveston County seat of justice is the Galveston County Justice Center, a multi-story concrete-and-glass building in downtown Galveston that was dedicated in 2006 and houses the county's courts. It succeeded a 1966 Modernist courthouse designed by architect Tibor Beerman. Galveston County itself dates to 1838, and the building also became home to the Galveston County Museum, which cares for more than 25,000 artifacts.
