History
The George Ball House was built in 1857 for prominent Galveston banker and philanthropist George Ball (1817-1884), using pine timber shipped from Maine. Originally standing at 23rd and Sealy, the house was moved six blocks south in 1902 to clear the site for the Rosenberg Library; it now stands in the Silk Stocking Historic District and was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1962.
