History

J. F. Smith & Brothers was a Galveston hardware dealership founded by John Francis Smith whose trade network reached across the southwestern United States. In 1889 the firm moved into a two-story iron-front building at 2323 Strand, a structure that still stands on Galveston's historic Strand. The historical marker commemorating the company was stolen from its site.
