History

Galveston Memorial Park at Hitchcock was organized on May 29, 1925 by Sam J. Levy, Walter L. Norwood and Fred C. Pabst on an original 62-acre tract, later enlarged. It was the first cemetery in Galveston County to offer perpetual care, and its oak- and magnolia-shaded grounds hold more than 22,000 burials, including many prominent Galveston-area families. The cemetery remains locally owned and operated.
