History

St. Lawrence Cemetery lies behind the Catholic church at St. Lawrence in south-central Glasscock County, a community of German Catholic farm families that formed when the area was divided into farms in the late 1940s. The church was built and its first Mass celebrated in 1948, with a post office operating from 1949 to 1957 and a parish hall and new church nave added in 1959 and 1970. Since 1950 the parish has hosted an annual fall festival that still draws thousands to the small settlement.
